Course Schedule and Options:

The 20-hour N-85 Fire Emergency Component course is tailored to accommodate different scheduling needs with two available options:

  • Weekday Course: This option is conducted over five evenings. It runs from Monday to Thursday during the first week, and the following Monday of the second week, from 6 PM to 10 PM Eastern Time. It's ideal for those who are looking to complete their training during the week without extending into a second full week.
  • Weekend Course: Designed for those who prefer not to disrupt their weekday schedule, this course takes place on Saturday & Sunday during the first weekend from 9 AM to 5 PM and the following Saturday of the second weekend from 9 AM to 1 PM. This condensed weekend schedule allows participants to complete their training in just one weekend.

All sessions are delivered virtually via Zoom, with requirements for participants to use a desktop or laptop with a camera actively focused on them during live sessions. For the examination portion of the course, only a desktop or laptop computer may be used.

Description:

The 20-hour N-85 Fire Emergency Component course is specifically designed for candidates who have not yet obtained this certification and need it to advance to taking the computer-based tests. This course becomes necessary typically if a candidate fails the N-85 Fire Emergency computer-based test on a second attempt. Enrolling in this course allows the candidate to solely complete the required fire emergency component without needing to retake both sections of the training.

To obtain the Fire and Life Safety Director Certificate of Fitness, candidates must successfully complete both components of the Fire and Life Safety Director courses—the Fire Emergency and the Non-Fire EAP (Emergency Action Plan) + ASMP (Active Shooter and Medical Emergency Preparedness) components. Completion of these courses is essential before proceeding to the computer-based tests which are crucial for certification.

Why It’s Essential:

High-rise office buildings, hotels, and commercial structures equipped with fire alarm systems and two-way voice communication require a certified Fire and Life Safety Director (FLSD) on-site during business hours. The FLSD plays a pivotal role in safeguarding occupants and visitors, coordinating fire safety efforts, and leading evacuation procedures during emergencies.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Fire Emergency Protocols: Master the protocols for rapid and effective fire response.
  • Use of Fire Safety Equipment: Get hands-on knowledge about the proper use and maintenance of fire safety equipment.
  • Evacuation Procedures: Learn how to plan and conduct safe and efficient evacuations under various conditions.

Eligibility and Certification:

Participants looking to receive their N-85 Certification must fulfill certain criteria, including a minimum age requirement, proficiency in English, and relevant background in fire safety or emergency response. This certification underscores a participant's ability to manage fire emergencies professionally and effectively.
